AGM

TheAnnual General Meeting was held in the clubhouse on Tuesday March 18th at 7:30pm.

President Wilfrid Scarborough took the Chair with Ced Fradley standing in for absent Secretary Michael Davison

  • Welcome: The Chairman welcomed 35 members to the 2008 AGM. Members stood in silence in respect for four members who had passed away during the last 12 months. They were Stanley Milner, Keith Hollingsworth, Billy Heaton and Mrs Mollie Hartley, all solid members and supporters of Oakworth Cricket Club.

  • Captains: Tim Walsh has resumed the role of First XI Captain in succession to Nigel Lockley. Chris White will replace Stevie Powell as Second XI Captain and the Third XI captaincy is yet to be filled. Mr Scarborough thanked Nigel and Steve for the leadership in 2007.

  • Secretary's Report: Ced Fradley read the report, prepared by Michael Davison. The pre-season Nat West Cricket Force event had gone well with many Scouts & Guides from the village helping paint the clubhouse from top to bottom. The sight-screens had also been repaired. The club like all in the League had suffered badly at the hands of the weather in 2007 and all the teams finished sixth in their respective Divisions. The club again reached both Cup Finals but both were lost, the Wynn Cup on an unprecedented bowl-out. On the junior front the under-15 team finished close runners up to Steeton whilst the u-13 side reached the Hindle Cup semi-finals. Three of our junior teams finished as league runners up and two other in fifth place. Michael wished all players a better 2008.

  • Treasurer's Report: Tom Shields unveiled a 'break-even' year in 2007 after increased bar sales and subscription income was offset by substantially increased maintenance costs, particularly to the drainage system. The first instalment of approx £4000 has been paid to JMS cricket for construction of our new Training Facility, which is expected to match anything in the Area. Donations and fund raising to date along with a substantial slice of club funds had enabled the payment, leaving the club perilously short of cash for the start of the season. A number of fund raising activities are planned for 2008. On 5th April the Team Managers and committee are to supervise young players in a 'bag packing' exercise at Sainsburys from 07:30 til 5:00pm. On 20th April a Sponsored Walk to the Hitching Stone via Newsholme Dene is planned. A Horse Race Night is also on the agenda along with a summer draw.

  • Election of Officers: All committee members and officials were re-elected with the exception of the Chairman, Ray Senior, who had stood down late in 2007. A new Chairman will be elected at the first 2008 Committee meeting.

  • Subscription and Prices: The financial position has forced increases to £25 for Playing members, £15 for junior members with Social members remaining at £5. Match subscriptions remain at £3 per senior match but now applying to all players. Bar prices are being reviewed in the wake of the Budget and supplier increases but there is to be a discount for drinks after 9:00pm on Saturdays for members. It is hoped that events can be arranged on Saturday evenings

  • Training facility: The facility is almost complete with just final sealing of the carpet and net hanging to undertake although some tidying of the surrounding are may well be required. A number of grants applications remain in the pipeline but the major funding organisation decisions are all deferred until later in the year. The remaining financial expenditure required is approx £7,000 plus VAT. Mr Scarborough asked all members to re-double their efforts to see if more funds can be raised from employers or others.

  • Bronte Fields: It was reported that OCC have now been brought into the development planning for Bronte Fields, our Third XI home of two years. A new shred (with Football) club house is to be built along with provision of car parking and better access. Much of the funding originates from the Football Foundation and the sale of the Bronte School site.

  • Shirts sponsorship: A deal had been struck with Dobson & Robinson of Ilkley for Gunn & Moore shirts at £15 each. Sales are going well. During the season it is expected that Duncan Bairstow will hold  a series of specific product sales at the club house.

  • 2008 Registration: The 'signing on' night is set for April 15th from 6:30pm. Membership Fees will be payable on the night.

AGM

Oakworth CC Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday 20th March 2007 at the clubhouse. Approx 35 club members attended. The following summarises the meeting which closed at 8:15pmp:

  • Tim Walsh has stood down after two years as First XI Captain, winning all three major trophies in that time. Nigel Lockley has been accepted by the committee as the Captain for 2007 along with Jason Bilborough as his vice-captain.

  • The re-appointment of Steve Powell as Second XI Captain and Jon Hollingsworth as Third Team Skipper were again confirmed

  • Michael Davison's second eloquent report as Secretary referred to the very successful bold move in 2006 to launch a new Third XI for the club, at Council premises, Bronte 'Villas'.. The team finished 9th of 14 teams with wonderful returns from all the players, particularly the juniors, under the leadership of Jon Hollingsworth. He expressed hope that 2007 would prove even better.

  • The First XI had completed an unexpected Craven & District League & Wynn Cup double but relinquished the Keighley Cup in the Final to Cullingworth. Oakworth are now entered into the county-wide Black Sheep Trophy and will play Nidderdale League Champions, Newby Hall at home on Sunday 27th May.

  • After 27 years of trying, the Cowling Cup now sits serenely at the club after Steve Powell and Nigel Lockley led the side to our first win, over long-time rivals Embsay lls; somewhat erasing the memory of our disastrous 1994 Final.

  • The next few weeks would see two important events. Firstly, the club's first involvement with the NatWest Cricket Force organised by the ECB. It is anticipated that clubhouse will be completely spring-cleaned inside and out and the village Scouts and Guides are expected to assist on the day; 1st April (09:30am). Enthusiastic participants will receive a NatWest Tee-Shirt.

Secondly, a fund-raising Horse-Race Night will take please prior to the season, April 14th (7:30pm). It is hoped that all members will commit to attend both events.

  • All Honorary Officials and the General Committee of the club were re-elected, with the implicit replacement of Tim Walsh with Nigel Lockley.

  • Treasurer Tom Shields report highlighted a small surplus of £400 arising from reduced expenditure on Grounds Maintenance and Cricket tackle purchases, albeit with reduced bar takings.

  • No new senior playing members were announced, however, Peter Butler, a new member from South Notts, was welcomed to the club along with his grandson. Peter, who is a fully qualified Umpire is to join our club umpiring 'squad'.

  • Membership subscriptions remain unchanged from 2006. However Full Teas will be increased from £2.00 to £2.50.

  • The Registration Day for all playing members, parents and supporters was announced for Tuesday 17th April, 6:30pm. In view of tighter licensing laws, it is vital the club ensures all persons (other than visiting teams) using the clubhouse are club members. It is hoped Duncan Bairstow will again provide a cricket equipment sale on the same night.

  • Chairman Ray Senior appealed to all members to ensure that sponsorship and fund raising was stepped up this year in order to meet expected costs of proposed new dressing rooms, toilets and verandah and score-box extension. Subject to progress in Cup competitions, it is planned to hold a Sponsored Walk later in the summer.
