Jack Davison
in 2009 receiving his u-15 all-rounder award from Team Manager (and Grandad)
Wilfrid Scarborough and receiving his third Cricketer of the Year award from
Yorkshire and England Lions Captain Andrew Gale at the 2009 UAJCL
Presentation Night. 15 year
old Jack has won countless awards in his 9 seasons with Oakworth Cricket
Club, many of course at junior level.
But now he has won a place in the
club's First XI, principally as a leg-spin bowler. he is now starting to
make the senior Craven & District League take notice.
On Saturday 26th June in a top-five Division
One encounter Jack winkled out 5 Haworth Road batsmen in his 15 overs.
Hainsworth, Rodwell, Khan, Mahmood and Rauf can all pay testimony to his
bowling wiles as Jack's contribution played a major part in Oakworth's Tie
with the Shipley side.
The performance is the
youngest five-for by an Oakworth First XI player.
At the time Jack was 15.5 years old. the previous record was set 23 years
ago in 1987 by Mick Howard, who was then aged 16.9 years. So Jack is
comfortably the youngest to achieve the feat.
It is a sign of the times at Oakworth
as earlier this season Ricky Linden became the 7th (now 8th) youngest to
take a five-for with his 6-43 versus Bingley Congs on 17th April, aged 18.2
years.
The youthful bowling attack can only
get better!
