Hoppy is Back

After five successful years with Keighley, Robert Hopkinson is back at Cure Hill. In 2008 he will no doubt take his place at the top end of the batting order and hopefully drop back into the form he showed with Oaks between 2000 and 2002. During that period Rob racked up over 2,500 runs in just 79 appearances (all matches) and he tops the all-time Average chart for Oaks with a stunning 45.66.

Rob was a member of the Treble-winning side of 2001 which took the League Championship, Wynn and Keighley Cup honours.

It was also the year that Rob claimed with pride the League Batting Average Prize with a terrific average of 62.46 from his 812 runs.

He is expected to become vice-captain, working in tandem with 2006 double-winning Captain Tim Walsh.

Originally learning his trade at Ingrow St Johns, Rob or 'Sloppy' as he is more commonly labelled, has already 22 half-centuries in his Oakworth record including 3 magnificent centuries. His first came in May 2001 against the now defunct James Nelsons SC with 147 in a massive mis-matched Wynn Cup tie. In 2002 he added 106* at Cure Hill against Skipton CI and later at West Lane he belted 157 against the 'auld enemy' Haworth Meths. In that match Rob and Steve Hartley set a club record opening partnership of 211 runs, eclipsing his and Jon Crossley's own year-old previous record by 54.

A frequent high scorer, Rob is not afraid to put bat to ball as his all-match tally of 78 sixes shows. His value on away tracks though is priceless as his average shoots up to an incredible 58.94 from 28 league knocks!

With the ball he has 56 wickets at 24.30, a touch expensive with Economy of 60 and a 41 Strike Rate. He also has taken 20 catches.
