Wilfrid Scarborough retired from
First XI action in 1995 after a magnificent 38-year career spanning the West
Bradford League and Craven & District League eras. A feared batsman with an
eye for big hitting his Oakworth career total league runs stood at
9,948 from 539 appearances. When
you consider the previous record holder was Cyril Pegg, whose career span
was longer; 1937-1978 ,had 5,271 it was a pinnacle that would likely stand
for some time.
Between 1964 and 2001 Wilf's long time buddy Barry Sayer was a close challenger but he moved into our Second XI in 2001 leaving his First XI tally at 9,133; close but not close enough. |

Well now just 13 years on there's a new kid on the block, none other than Wilf's son Michael Scarborough (left). Since 1988 Michael, arguably the CDL's best all-round cricketer, has been breaking Oakworth Records in record time! And now his Dad's milestone is in sight and after a reasonable start to season 2008 including another 100 at Crossflatts he is bang on schedule to overhaul the old man. Michael stands currently on 9,748 (at June 7th 2008) in 344 appearances, exactly 200 shy of the 13 year old 'family' record. Michael is already the holder of the most runs in all matches record, by some way, on 12,960 from 403 innings. Wilfrid has 11,601 (564 innings) with Barry on 10,940 (567 innings)
