Jason Bilbrough - 2005-2008 Oakworth CC First XI

In over 650 overs Jason Bilbrough made a lasting impression on Oakworth First XI bowling attack in his four years at the club. He arrived from Haworth West End with a superb all-round reputation but with intention to boost his career and maybe win some silverware in the top Division. He did that alright picking up a Keighley Cup winners medal in 2005 and followed it with a League & Wynn Cup double 12 months later.

The burly speedster took 162 wickets at 15.25 apiece off an enviable strike rate every 24 balls. He signalled his arrival and forthcoming contribution in his third match, away at Embsay taking 4-59 off 18 overs. Four matches later his first five-for 6-26 came in the demolition of J Nelsons in the Wynn Cup. There was to be another later in the Keighley Cup with 6-32 against sterner opposition in Cullingworth.

All in all there were 5 five-fors to savour, the last this year against Cowling 6-25. After an 8 match ban in 2007 his resolution was a little dented but his pre-retirement form was superb with 22 wickets in his last 6 appearances.

Whilst the photos show Jason in batting mode he wasn't often called into action, his best being 34 no at no 9 against Glusburn in 2005.

All told Jason turned out 57 times for Oakworth in the Craven & District League and a further 23 occasions in Cup-ties, the most memorable arguably the Yorkshire Champions Trophy semi-final against the mighty Pudsey Congs in 2007. Although his 4-34 in the 2006 Wynn Cup Final win over Thornton-in-Craven at Cowling will linger long in everyone's memory too.

With the bat Jason stacked up 326 runs in 37 innings at 14.17 to sit alongside his 162 wickets in just 4 years.

Always a whole-hearted performer Jason Bilbrough may not have been at Oakworth long but he made a telling contribution and lasting impression of a gutsy club-man. Just in fact what we expected.
