Title contenders?
Promotion last season was well earned
after a 3 month battle with Oxenhope and Earby, who were finally the ones to
miss out. Our batting last year was high class with a club record number of
runs scored. The squad will lose Marshall, James and Harry to the KC2000
League but the core strength is still there to mount a serious challenge in
2010. Jack Davison, Ben Fothergill, Lewis Wrathall
and Matt Lee are as strong a top four as can be
found with Jack and Lewis showing all-round ability as winner and runner-up
in the Cricketer-of-the-Year awards. Add the developing talents of
Jordan Bates, the promise of
Jackson Rouse and Luke
Chapman and a useful combo emerges. Last year's u-13 Cup Finalists
will also provide James Lee and
George Ingham in addition to those still
eligible at u-13.
As at under-17 our Cup ambitions may
be scuppered by suspensions but the League Championship quite clearly is
within our ambition.
Winter Nets
As the cricket season fast approaches
(only 15 weeks to go !!), the club announces the arrangements for Winter
Nets. They will again be held at Oakbank School on Sunday
afternoons. For the younger age groups u-9, u-11, u-13 & u-15 Nets will commence
at 5:00pm till 6:00pm. The Nets will commence
Sunday February 21st for a
period of 6 weeks. The weekly cost will be £3.00 per player.
2009 Presentation Night
The
Annual Junior Presentation Night
took place as scheduled on Friday 2nd October at the club house.
Team Manager Michael Davison was unable to
attend but Club President Wilfrid Scarborough
took the reins. The under-15s had been the only one of our teams to gain
League honours with their targetted Division win to gain promotion to
Division One for 2010. The inexpliquable Hargreaves Cup Final loss to Pendle
Forest was a sad finale for the team in more ways than one. Nevertheless the
on-field performances were of the highest order with just two defeats, to
rivals Earby and Oxenhope, who also gained promotion. The under 15 awards for 2009 were
announced as follows:
The
batting prize was a well-contested affair and the winner was
Lewis Wrathall in
a highly productive year for him.
Captain Jack Davison continued to ply his fast-tweakers
and picked up the wickets and the bowling award. His energetic fielding also
caught the eye of the Umpires to gain his second trophy of the night. The
all-rounder prize was fiercely contested by Lewis, Jack, Ben Fothergill and
Matty Lee with the Trophy going to Jack Davison
to add to his winter polishing duties!
Later, the highlight of the evening was as always the award
of the
SA Labels Cup
for the best performance of the year. A difficult coaches verdict was that
James Lee's Under 15 Cup
Semi-Final 27 and 2 wickets vs Upper Wharfedale was
the most deserving match-winning performance in a major event.
Day of Disaster
The
19th July will go down as 'Black Sunday' for Oakworth CC as all four
fixtures planned for that day were lost, sadly including two Cup Finals.
After a fantastic high-scoring season of almost 1,300 runs our big day at
the Cup Final was an anti-climax when we didn't perform as we had done most
of the year.
A 79 all out score was way below our par
and though we took 3 Pendle Forest wickets we couldn't sop them taking the
Cup for the first time. Jordan Bates was the one to maintain a form line as
everyone else seemed off-colour.
The good news on Wednesday was that our
surprisingly easy win over Denholme Dragons has brought us a straight back
promotion to the top Division.

Accordingly fixtures are changed . Please note there is now a fixture on
20th May (away vs Bingley Congs) PLEASE CHECK on This site.

The target for this year's under-15s is to get the club
back to Division One, from which we were relegated last season. The squad is
quite capable of this in a 12-match programme in the Pro-Coach Academy
League Division Two of 11 teams. James Heslop, Harry Hurren and Marshall
Pedder are joined by Jack Davison, Jackson Rouse, Lewis Wrathall, Ben
Fothergill, Matty Lee, Ryan Taylor, Jordan Bates, Frazer Atkinson, Josh
Lister and George Knight. The main challengers would seem to be Denholme,
Earby and Pendle Forest.
In the Hargreaves Cup Oaks will travel to Skipton in
Round One.

The
Annual Junior Presentation Night
took place as scheduled on Friday 19th September, 7:30pm at the club house.
Changes to team management for 2009 were announced in that Michael Davison
will manage the under 15s and Simon Howell the under 13s .
It is also a possibility that the club may enter two teams
in the under 17s league in 2009.
The five under 15 awards for 2008 were
announced as follows:
In a year which brought relegation to Division Two the
outstanding feature was the enjoyment gained by the squad and finally the
winning of the last two matches against rivals Oxenhope and Haworth west End
ensured a high note on which to finish. They also enjoyed hugely the
crushing win over Ingrow in the
Hargreaves Cup, a side
containing a fair number of ex-Oakworth players.
Most of the lads will move up to
The Keighley Cup2000 under 17 League in 2009 and will form the nucleus of
our 'second' team.
The
batting prize went to under 13 Jack Davison in
a highly productive year for him at a number of age-group levels.
Captain Luke Chapman benefitted enormously from
experience in the 2nd and 3rd XIs and was a worthy winner of the bowling
award ahead of Greig Hudson. Leading catcher and fielder was
Jack Davison and he also added the all-rounder
prize to his massive 2008 haul of trophies. Finally the Most Improved player
award went to Jack Atkinson, another to benefit
from run outs with the Third XI.
The highlight of the evening was as always the award
of the
SA Labels Cup
for the best performance of the year. A difficult coaches verdict was that
skipper Jack Davison's Hindle Cup Final 56 vs Earby was
a stupendous match-winning performance in a major event.

Want to watch the fabulous cricket at Oakworth
AND earn some dosh? Oaks are looking for regular First, Second
and Third Team scorers for 2008. The pay is £10 per match and a free tea!!
Contact any of the committee for more details.

UAJCL Cup Draws have produced some
fascinating ties in 2008. Not least amongst them is Oakworth u-15s home
pairing with guess who? Yes it's Ingrow!! It's a chance for Ingrow's
Joe Hoyle, Jason Roberts, Matt Courtman
and one or two others to show Oaks what they've learned in their years at
Oakworth and similarly our lads will of course want to ensure they don't get
carried away! The match at Cure Hill has to be played by May 16th.

Last year's super under-15s squad have
now almost all moved up to the
KC2000 League
(u-17s). So this year a virtually new under 15s will chase the Johnson & Johnson
League title so narrowly missed
last year. Vast experience comes from Luke Chapman, Captain of the
2006 Brook Taverner side, Greig Hudson, and Tom Hudson. Added to these guys
we have Tom Steele and Jack Atkinson from 2007, Moving up from the under-13s
will be James Heslop, Jack Darnborough, Marshall Pedder and Joe
Healey. Back up will come from the under-13s in the likely
form of Jack Davison, Ben Fothergill, Lewis Wrathall, Jackson Rouse and Matt Lee.
It'll be a tough year and a hard act to
follow.

Our u-15s squad has had a tremendous
season in the
Johnson & Johnson League losing only twice; to Upper Wharfedale and Steeton. The
batting is the best in the age group with Luke T, Jack
and Brannan amongst the age group best, in fact in the
top five run-scorers. All three have made the League List as has Michael Clegg
in the bowling. Ricky Linden
and James Longbottom
have also bowled well (10 wickets each) with young Greig Hudson
chipping in regularly with ball or bat. Well done lads! The loss to Upper
Wharfedale proved crucial as Steeton lost just the one match to us at Cure
Hill. Danny Aspinall, Jack Atkinson
and Tom Steel
as inexperienced players have progressed well, the Third XI obviously
helping them enormously. Luke Chapman
and Tom Hudson
have had steady years but will be to the fore in 2008.
Oakworth u-15s have never won the First
Division so the second placing is as good as we have ever done!!
2008 will see a major exodus upwards to
the under-17s with Luke C, Tom H, Jack A, Greig and Tom S still eligible for
u-15 cricket. They will be joined by
Joe Hoyle, Jason Roberts, Matt Courtman, Ben Pursey, Jack Darnborough,
Marshall Pedder and Joe Healey
in a relatively new look u-15 line up, charged at the very least with
preserving our cherished Division One status.

Under
15s
The Hansons Furnishings
Trophy

Here
they are in celebratory mood, Oaks 2005 Johnson & Johnson
U-15 Divisional Champions. They clinched the
title with victories in their last two matches to end the season with an
11-0-1 record, having lost only away at runners up Earby. Its the first time
Oakworth have won a
league prize at under-15 level. In 2006 the team will compete in the First
Division after this year's first season back in UAJCL in Division Two.
The squad has included Scott Hartley (Capt), Jake
Hoyle (vice capt), Oliver Stell, Joe Copperwaite, Richard McCullough, Ben
Lamb, Hannah Ellis, Chris Crook, Nicholas Bolt, Jack Booth,, Jacob Driver &
Jonny Gill. Under-13s Gordon Ingham, Jack Hainsworth, Brannan Lawn, Nick
Crook, Luke Chapman Michael Clegg & Ben Wine also helped land the title. The team will receive the
Trophy at the League Presentation Night on Friday 16th September at KRUFC,
7:00pm (for 7:30).
